At Hog Roast Langholm, we totally get that every event (and every host!) is a little different. So before you jump in and book, it’s only natural to have a few questions. Don’t worry – we’ve rounded up some of the ones we get asked the most, along with our honest answers.
Q) What’s The Difference Between a Hog Roast and a Spit Roast?
This one comes up nearly every week! They sound pretty similar, don’t they? The main difference is all in the way the pig’s cooked.
A spit roast is the big showy one – the pig’s fixed on a metal pole and slowly turned over an open flame. Looks great, smells even better, and it’s proper theatre for your guests. You can’t really miss it.
A hog roast, though, is done in one of our special roasting ovens. It’s gentler, steadier heat – the sort that makes the meat soft and juicy, and gives you that lovely crackling on top. It’s also handy if you’ve got some veggie or vegan guests who might prefer not to see the full pig turning away on display.
Whichever you go for, it’s still the same idea: good pork, cooked slowly until it’s falling apart and packed with flavour.
Q) How Many People Can One Pig Feed?
That depends on the pig, really. A big 50kg one will feed roughly 100–200 people, depending on portion size (and how hungry everyone is!). Adding sides also helps to bulk out the meal and make sure there’s plenty to go around. For smaller get-togethers, Hog Roast Langholm also offers suckling pigs, which are lovely and tender, and feed around a dozen folks comfortably.
Q) Can You Cater For Vegetarians and Vegans?
Absolutely. We’d never dare leave anyone out. We do proper veggie options – no undressed salads or unripe tomatoes on our watch!
All jokes aside, Hog Roast Langholm has got plenty to offer no matter what your guests are craving, including things like BBQ pulled jackfruit rolls, grilled veg kebabs with halloumi, fresh salads, plant-based canapes and more! And if someone’s got allergies or intolerances, just let us know beforehand so we can plan for it.
