As well as benefiting from a buzzing urban scene, Carlisle boasts some truly gorgeous country views, peaceful streams and charming villages, which are littered with historical landmarks, making it a wonderful place to explore for tourists and locals alike!
Here at Hog Roast Dalston, we couldn’t be more proud to call Carlisle our home, and we love getting out into the community and helping our fellow residents with their events and celebrations, whether they be big or small.
Most recently, we got the chance to take in some of the city’s stunning landmarks while on the job, thanks to Samantha and Ben, who had asked for our help with catering for a charity event they had put together. Their fundraiser saw over 100 people run, jog or walk 5k for a worthy cause, and once they reached the finish line, they were rewarded for their efforts with Hog Roast Dalston’s trademark: the Classic Hog Roast Menu!
As always, our catering manager, John, was in charge of making sure that the service ran like clockwork on the day, so he and the team arrived at the finish line long before any of the participants did. After setting up the catering equipment and serving tables, the team threw themselves into food prep, which involved scoring the mid-sized hog, rubbing it with salt and dousing it in water before leaving the meat to roast low and slow over the grill.
As the fire licked at the hog, causing the meat to sizzle and spit, Hog Roast Dalston whipped up a batch of homemade savoury onion stuffing, applesauce, side salads and mixed fries to pair with the main attraction. They also pieced together vegetable and halloumi skewers, which were chargrilled and served with sweet chilli sauce, tzatziki dip and applesauce.
Time seemed to fly by, and before too long, Hog Roast Dalston found themselves serving up hog roast rolls, veggie kebabs and soft drinks to the ravenous runners as they crossed the finish line! They were all extremely glad to see our team and happily dug into the flavoursome food, which replenished their energy.
