From March 17th to 23rd, the UK celebrates Food Waste Action Week, its largest campaign aimed at reducing food waste. This week also highlights two other important observances: Global Recycling Day on March 18th and World Water Day on March 22nd. At Hog Roast Caldbeck, we’re excited to join in these initiatives and showcase how we’re doing our part to help protect the planet. We know that many of our customers choose their caterers based on eco-friendly credentials, so here’s a reminder of the sustainable steps we’re taking to minimise waste and make our operations more planet-friendly.
Global Recycling Day: Giving Waste a Second Life
Recycling is a key part of reducing our environmental footprint, and at Hog Roast Caldbeck, we fully embrace the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
We make it a priority to minimise waste at every stage of our catering process. Instead of single-use items, we provide high-quality reusable napkins and use real crockery and cutlery or eco-friendly bamboo options that are as stylish as they are sustainable.
But we know recycling is essential too! Our stainless steel grills are built to last, but when their time comes to be replaced, they can be easily recycled. Stainless steel is one of the most recyclable materials available, ensuring that we keep our waste impact low.
World Water Day: Using Water Wisely
Water conservation is another key focus at Hog Roast Caldbeck. As a precious resource, we aim to use it responsibly. We’ve developed a system that helps us reduce water waste across all our operations. When preparing fresh fruits, vegetables, and salads, we use one bowl for washing and rinsing. For cleaning dirty plates, we have two sink compartments—one for a quick rinse and another for a thorough wash. These simple yet effective strategies help us use water wisely while maintaining high hygiene standards.
Food Waste Action Week: Fighting Food Waste with Care
Food waste contributes to 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. At Hog Roast Caldbeck, we take food waste seriously. We carefully plan the amount of food to prepare for each event, ensuring minimal leftovers. When food remains, we offer clients the option to take home extras or donate them to care homes or homeless shelters. Every bite counts, and we’re committed to reducing food waste wherever possible.
This Food Waste Action Week, along with Global Recycling Day and World Water Day, we encourage you to consider how your choices can help protect the planet. Together, we can make a meaningful difference!
